Paramedics called after woman hit by car on Lothian Road

Paramedics have been called to Lothian Road this evening after a female pedestrian was hit by a car.

Passers-by have reported seeing paramedics treating a casualty on the road, close to the Usher Hall.

A police spokesman confirmed a woman had been struck by a car and said they were called to the scene after receiving the 999 call at about 6:05pm.

Details on the extent of the woman's injuries are unclear at this stage but they are not thought to be life threatening.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News says the Southbound carriageway is blocked with queues back to the West End and on West Approach Road.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has also been contacted for information.
