Recent routine inspections of the Grade A-listed landmark, which was built between 1894 and 1897, found that some sections of the decorative facade panels are in poor condition.

Work to wrap the decorative facade of the south span of North Bridge began last night and is set to last around approximately three weeks. It is expected that both lanes under the bridge will required to be closed to traffic for certain periods.

A netting system will also be fitted to the underside of the bridge, which will enable access for ongoing engineering inspections.

Transport Convener Councillor Lesley Hinds said: “Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to station users and nearby residents and businesses and we’d like to thank the public in advance for their patience while we carry out this maintenance.”
