AN OFFICE block on the tram route is to be transformed into a £17 million budget hotel
The creation of a 127-bedroom Premier Inn follows a deal between Consensus Capital Property, the private equity-backed property fund, and leisure group Whitbread.
The hotel will open in York Place and face one of the main stops on the tram line, which is due to come into service at the end of the month after huge delays and cost over-runs.
The capital’s latest Premier Inn, housed in offices formerly occupied by HM Revenue and Customs, will create about 40 jobs when completed.
Around around half of the posts created will be offered to the long-term unemployed.
Kevin Murray, senior acquisitions manager for Whitbread hotels said: “ Our latest deal will drive investment and regeneration in the centre of Edinburgh.”
