DAYTIME testing of the trams in the city centre is expected to start within the next two weeks.

They will operate in normal traffic for the first time in the run-up to the launch of passenger services scheduled for May.

Trams will get priority over other vehicles at junctions, with traffic lights turning red as they approach.

So far, trams have only been tested at night on the street section of the route, between Haymarket and York Place. Daytime testing has already started on the off-street section, between Haymarket and Edinburgh Airport.

A safety awareness campaign is already under way among other road users.
