Chicago-bound plane diverts to Edinburgh after emergency

A PLANE bound for Chicago is currently circling over Edinburgh to burn fuel after declaring an emergency.

United Airlines flight 929 left London Heathrow at 7.50am but is believed to have begun leaking fuel soon afterwards.

It is expected to land at Edinburgh Airport around 9.30am and emergency services are on standby.

The aircraft is a Boeing 767-322(ER), which has been in service since April 1991.
