A DRIVER was snapped apparently reading at the wheel while speeding along a dual carriageway during the rush hour.

The motorist appears to be holding a book in his left hand whilst steering the red Citroen C4 Picasso with his right.

A shocked passenger in another vehicle captured the picture while on the Edinburgh city bypass on Tuesday this week.

The book worm was heading east towards Sheriffhall roundabout at the time.

The passenger wrote on the website Edinburgh’s Worst Drivers: “Looks a decent read mate, but c’mon eh we’re on the City Bypass.”

A spokesman for the site said: “How can somebody be so stupid, to put not only their life in danger but every other road user around them in danger too?

“It only takes a second for something to happen.

“We do not know if he has any children or any passengers in his people carrier but I sure hope he does not.

“If he really can not wait to read the next chapter of his book, we would suggest a book on tape, or a bus pass.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “If anyone has any concerns about driving offences they should contact police on 101.”
