Edinburgh City Bypass closed for an hour after vehicle sheds mud and boulders across road

A stretch of the Edinburgh City Bypass was closed for an hour today after mud and boulders came off a vehicle and were left strewn across the road.

The incident happened eastbound on the A720 road, near the approach to the Baberton slip road, at about 10:35am.

A police spokesman said: "We received a report of debris on the A720 on the Baberton approach to the slip road. I believe it was mud and boulders. It looks likely that a vehicle has shed its load."

The spokesman said one lane of the road was initially closed before both lanes, between the Calder and Baberton junctions, were shut for about an hour.

The bypass has since reopened.

It is unknown exactly what type of vehicle was involved.

In a social media post around 11:45am, Edinburgh police dicision warned drivers to expect delays on the bypass eastbound at Baberton and advised drivers to use an alternative route.
