Edinburgh Trams will further reduce its service after Easter following a 90 percent drop in customers due to the coronavirus lockdown.

From Sunday April 12 trams will run only every 15 minutes until 7.30pm, after which they will run every 30 minutes.

Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams, said the company was experiencing a 90 percent drop in customers.

He added that trams are now subject to a more rigorous cleaning regime and that social distancing measures are in place.

He said: “We are now experiencing over a 90% reducing in customer journeys as the public is advised to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

“We are working hard to maintain one of Scotland’s Critical National Infrastructures for key workers and those who rely on us for essential travel.

“For those who do have to travel, we have enhanced our cleaning regime and introduced social distancing measures to our on-board service to keep our customers and colleagues safe.”
