Free taxi wi-fi comes online in Edinburgh

A COLLECTION of black cabs fitted with wi-fi are hitting Edinburgh’s streets.

Ten taxis are offering passengers free internet from yesterday during their journeys for the next six months in efforts by East Coast to promote the onboard wi-fi services available on all trains running between Edinburgh and London.

The cabs involved in the Feel at Home campaign will be marked out by wrap-around advertising. Customers who take an East Coast black cab on Friday afternoons between 3-5pm and 6-8pm will also not have to pay for the taxi fare within an eight-mile radius of the city centre as part of the launch.

East Coast head of marketing Natalie Cowen said: “The wi-fi enabled black cabs are a great way for us to demonstrate to potential passengers the fast and reliable connection they can enjoy on a journey with us.

“Wi-fi is rapidly becoming one of the main reasons people chose to travel by rail rather than car or plane.”
