A mid-air emergency has been declared on a packed Jet2 passenger jet from Edinburgh to Tenerife, forcing it to land in Belfast

Flight LS727 declared a squawk 7700, the code for an on-board emergency, while in the air. before landing in Ireland.

A customer flying with the budget airline required medical attention, a spokesperson for Jet2 has confirmed.

The Boeing 737 left Edinburgh Airport at 10.31am today (Friday) and was due to land in the Spanish tourist resort of Tenerife at 3pm.

A spokesperson said: “Flight LS727 from Edinburgh to Tenerife has diverted to Belfast International, due to a customer requiring medical attention”.
