Leith Walk biker who left woman seriously injured '˜was on drugs'

A drugged-up biker who collided with a young woman on Sunday and left her with serious leg injuries has appeared in court.

A 32-year-old male motorcyclist collided with a woman on Leith Walk, near the junction with Jane Street at around 12:40am on Sunday.

The woman, 22, sustained serious injuries to her leg after being struck by a Kawasaki motorbike, and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Charged with five road traffic offences, the biker appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

His offences include: causing serious injury by driving, failing to stop at the scene of the accident, driving without insurance and driving without an MOT.

He has also been charged for driving while under the influence of drugs.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Scotland said that both road policing and local officers will be continuing to conduct regular checks on the roads throughout the summer to tackle criminality.
