"We are appealing to anyone who saw the incident happen, or to those who may have dash-cam footage and who have not already spoken to officers to get in touch."

The man is described as white, between 20 to 40 years of age, wearing a black Karrimor jacket, black jogging bottoms and black and grey Nike trainers.

The lane remained closed last night and this morning, following what police had identified as a ‘serious collision.’

Diversions of approximately 20 minutes have been put in place to assist traffic flow and motorists using the motorway are being urged to avoid the area.
