MSP wants extension of High Speed Rail link

Transport Minister Keith Brown was today meeting UK Transport Secretary Justine Greening to urge her to make the extension of High Speed Rail to Scotland a priority.

The Scottish Government has indicated it is willing to invest up to £9 billion to help build the new line if Westminster agrees.

Edinburgh Pentlands SNP MSP Gordon MacDonald said the Tories had previously reneged on promises to Scotland over Eurostar which was originally planned to connect to Scotland, but did not.

He said: “High Speed Rail must not repeat the missed opportunities of Eurostar – Scotland needs this service to help businesses grow and the economy to develop. The Tories’ track record with rail in Scotland is poor, so they now must deliver.”
