RAIL union RMT is to hold a rally at Waverley station on Thursday morning as part of its fight to keep the East Coast Main Line in public hands.

The UK Government announced last month that it would seek to put the line back in the hands of a private company by 2015.

Rail Minister Simon Burns said the move would benefit passengers and taxpayers.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “On Thursday, we will continue to fight not only to keep the East Coast in public ownership but to re-nationalise the entire network, ending the great rail rip-off once and for all.”
