EDINBURGH Trams will start a six-week “red eye” trial next week, giving passengers the opportunity to travel at earlier times in the morning.

The trial, which begins on Monday, will help passengers make earlier flight times while improving the service at Ingliston Park and Ride.

Travellers arriving at
Edinburgh Airport can expect a tram to depart at 4.46am, 89 minutes earlier than the current start time of 6.15am. Those travelling to the airport or within the city centre can leave from York Place at 5am – 29 minutes earlier than the current departure time.

The first tram to depart Ingliston Park & Ride will leave at 4.48am and the first city-bound tram from the Gyle will be at 4.30am.

Ian Craig, chief executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said: “For us it’s all about continuously improving the experience for our passengers and, throughout the course of the year, we’ve worked hard to review and update our service.”
