A SUBMARINER who was caught speeding at close to 100mph has been banned from the road.

Duncan Roberts was clocked driving his powerful Ducati motorbike at 98mph as he raced along the A1 in East Lothian earlier this year.

Roberts – a former-motorbike instructor – was driving back to his Edinburgh home after visiting his elderly mother in Duns, in the Borders, when a police patrol spotted him speeding.

Haddington Sheriff Court was told Roberts’ job was “in jeopardy” if he lost his licence.

But Sheriff Peter Braid decided to ban the 54-year-old from driving for 40 days and also dish out a £330 fine after being told that Roberts already had three points on his driving licence.

Roberts pleaded guilty to an amended charge of driving a motorbike at 98mph on the A1 between the Gladsmuir and Bankton junctions on June 30 during an appearance at Haddington Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
