Police today appealed for witnesses after a tramworks security guard was assaulted yesterday.

The 29-year-old was attacked by two men who punched him in the face, knocking his glasses off.

The assault took place at the tram line site on Stenhouse Drive just after 2:30pm

His attackers ran off towards Carricknowe and the guard contacted police.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The suspects are described as white and between 18 and 20-years-old. One was around 6ft tall and wearing a light blue tracksuit, while the other was of average height with light-brown hair and wearing a light-coloured tracksuit. He was also riding a BMX bike.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The victim was not seriously injured but was understandably shaken by this random and unprovoked assault.

“Anyone who was in the Stenhouse Drive area on Sunday afternoon and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects is also asked to get in touch by calling 101.”
