FIREFIGHTERS are using cutting gear to free a woman trapped in an upturned car after an accident this afternoon.

Emergency services were called out to the city bypass close to Cockatoo Bar and Restaurant in the Millerhall area shortly before 4pm today.

A spokeswoman from the fire service said firefighters were using hydraulic cutting equipment to free her, and also a hose reel as a safety measure.

“She is currently being stabilised by the ambulance service and a spinal board being prepared prior to us removing her from the vehicle,” she added.

The woman will then be taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
