Tributes have been paid to an Edinburgh man who was killed while cycling in the Borders.

David Stanners, 35, died at the scene of the incident on the route linking the A708 at Cappercleuch to the A701 at Tweedsmuir on Saturday.

He was taking part in an event with Peebles Cycling Club.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.

A statement on the Edinburgh RC Cycling Club website said Mr Stanners had been taking part in the Peebles CC Sportive when he went off the road on the descent from Talla.

It read: “Dave was a well liked and active member of the club. Dave will be missed by the many club riders he came in contact with. Our sincere condolences to his family.”
