TRIBUTES have been paid to a climber who died after falling in the Cairngorms on Good Friday.
Peter Nielsen, 32, fell in the Aladdin’s Buttress area of Coire an t-Sneachda while out with an organised group.
Mr Nielsen, from Tranent, was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Tributes were led by Ross High Rugby Club, where Mr Nielsen used to play.
Head coach Bob Baillie said: “On the rugby park, it didn’t matter how big the opponent, this guy wore his heart on his sleeve and put his head where most wouldn’t put their feet to make the tackle.”
It is understood Mr Nielsen had recently moved away from Tranent to start a new job and was living in Birmingham.
His family were too upset to speak, but in a statement thanked mountain rescue teams for efforts to save his life.
Police Scotland said in a statement: “The family of Mr Nielsen wish to thank the Mountain Rescue Services who were involved at the time of the incident.”
