The victims – a man and a woman both aged 47 – were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at Little France for treatment to the burns they received on their hands.

They were also understood to be suffering from smoke inhalation.

This morning the fire service said the pair were burned as they tried to remove cylinders from the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The caravan was completely destroyed.”
