Uncle of Hibs star repaid debt by club

THE uncle of Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths, who sued the player over a £500 debt, has been repaid by the Easter Road club.

Disabled Norman Griffiths, 63, was sent a cheque by the club just weeks after he took his nephew to court.

Mr Griffiths lent him the cash more than six months ago when his daughter told him the Scotland under-21 player – who earns thousands of pounds a week – was in trouble.

But the 22-year-old player reneged on a pledge to repay the debt.

Mr Griffiths said: “I couldn’t believe the cheque was from Hibs. I’m just annoyed at how Leigh treated me. It was an underhand way of going about things.”

A Hibs spokesman said: “The player asked for the money to be deducted from his wages and passed to Mr Griffiths.”
