Uni wins silver at green award ceremony

QUEEN Margaret University has landed a silver award in the education category of a national awards scheme.

It picked up a UK Green Apple Award for its work in ensuring that environmental awareness and sustainability are key parts of its daily work. The award complements the university’s Scottish Green Apple trophy, which was presented to it in September.

The awards, run by The Green Organisation, have been going since 1994 and recognise companies, councils and communities that can demonstrate the effective measures they have introduced for environmental benefit.

Mr Scott was also presented with an International Green Hero plaque. As an International Green Hero, the university is now viewed as a leading Green Apple Award winner, worthy of having its worked promoted as an example of best practice.

Mr Scott said: “Since opening our innovative campus development in 2007, QMU has gained much recognition for its sustainable campus design and its environmental features. However, we have not rested on our laurels and have made significant efforts to extend work and thinking beyond the physical building.”
