Union warns over libraries

UNION representatives have claimed a £250,000 cut to Edinburgh’s libraries will leave staff struggling to maintain good levels of services.

Unison steward Dave Harold told councillors cutbacks would in some cases leave just a single staff member running smaller libraries, while the other is on a break.

Labour culture spokesperson Councillor Gordon Munro said: “You cannot expand the service and contract the funding. Something has to give.”

In response, Lib Dem councillor Paul Edie accused Labour and the unions of “scaremongering”.
