Veterans’ charities given funding boost

CHARITIES in the Capital which help ex-servicemen and women overcome the mental scars of the battlefield have been handed a funding boost.

Two city-based veterans’ groups are to share almost £25,000 handed out by the Scottish Government.

The cash will help former active soldiers and their families cope with the challenging reintegration to civilian life.

The Craigmillar-based Thistle Foundation, which runs a “lifestyle course” to help veterans, has been handed £10,000.

Mental health charity Health in Mind, which is also based in Edinburgh, was given £10,000 to support children and families of veterans affected by mental illness. A further £4400 was given to the charity for equipment to help those with combat-related stress.
