Vettriano painting props in auction frame

A COLLECTION of props used in paintings by Scots artist Jack Vettriano is to go under the hammer in the Capital.

Among the lots are a 1950s red upholstered chair which is believed to have appeared in three Vettriano originals – Self Portrait, The Critical Hour and Rachel in the Studio.

A late Victorian sofa featured in the painting Original Sin and a white circular dial telephone that can be seen in The Arrangement are also up for auction in Saturday’s sale at Shapes Auctioneers, Sighthill.

Also on offer will be various personal items belonging to the Fife-born artist, including Vettriano’s personal paint board, a black navy officer’s jacket, a Player’s cigarette vending machine and kitchen utensils.

An array of furniture, fishing rods, hickory-shafted golf clubs and a pair of brown leather armchairs will also be sold.

Gavin Lindsay, of Shapes, said: “This is a very rare opportunity for fans of Mr Vettriano to own an item, completely unique, that appears in some of his most famous paintings.

“He is a world-renowned artist and incredibly popular across all age ranges.

“We are expecting bids from across the world.”
