A SPATE of high-profile muggings have take place in recent weeks, including the attack on church elder Evelyn Crawford, 75, who was left fighting for her life after being assaulted and robbed in Groathill Road North last month.

As part of Operation Arable, officers have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with two assault and robberies on January 30.

In the first incident, a 59-year-old woman was walking in Blackford Road when she was grabbed from behind by a suspect who tried to take her bag. Fifty minutes later, a 50-year-old woman was walking in Fountainbridge when a man pulled out a small knife and demanded her bag.

Community carer Tracy Dickson, 40, was slashed by a tattooed thug who demanded she hand over any medication she was carrying to a home visit in Stevenson Road, Gorgie, last month.

n A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with a pair of assault and robberies in Armadale on Sunday which left two elderly women in hospital.
