AN East Lothian village is hoping to be granted a royal visit next summer to observe landmark anniversaries for a local school and 17th- century church.
Dirleton Primary School celebrates its centenary in 2012 while the kirk marks its 400th year and villagers are collectively crossing their fingers the palace will agree to a royal appearance.
A year-long programme of events is set to get under way at the school tomorrow with a flag-raising ceremony of a standard designed by pupils.
Headteacher Sarah Ogden said: “The year of commemoration should enable former pupils and staff, parents, the local community and the school to celebrate together.
“I am sure it will be a fantastic year.”
