Village makes royal visit bid

AN East Lothian village is hoping to be granted a royal visit next summer to observe landmark anniversaries for a local school and 17th- century church.

Dirleton Primary School celebrates its centenary in 2012 while the kirk marks its 400th year and villagers are collectively crossing their fingers the palace will agree to a royal appearance.

A year-long programme of events is set to get under way at the school tomorrow with a flag-raising ceremony of a standard designed by pupils.
