Visitors back for Torness

VISITORS are to be welcomed to a Lothians power station for the first time since the September 11 attacks more than a decade ago.

EDF Energy, which owns the Torness facility in East Lothian, said it wanted to provide greater transparency to the public on nuclear energy.

Such visits were halted after the Twin Towers and Pentagon terrorist attacks, but it was another disaster – the tsunami affecting the Fukushima plant in Japan last year – that sparked a U-turn. Director Paul Winkle said: “We should not hide behind security.”
