Warning over benefit theft

BENEFIT cheats have been warned they will be caught after a man was jailed.

Douglas Jack, from Bonnyrigg, was given nine months in prison last week for fraudulently obtaining housing benefit, council tax benefit, income support and carers allowance.

He pleaded guilty after claiming £40,717.58 to which he was not entitled.

A Midlothian Council spokesperson said: “Benefit cheats steal money from people who genuinely need that help. If you know anyone who is committing fraud, please report it on Midlothian Council’s website.”
