Warning over missing breast screening

EXPERTS in the Capital have warned that Pakistani and south Asian women are among those at risk of late diagnosis of breast cancer because they are less likely to be screened.

Researchers from Edinburgh University examined almost 140,000 records where women aged 50 and over were invited to attend a breast screening clinic for the first time.

They found that 41.9 per cent of Pakistani women, 37.4 per cent of African women and 32.7 per cent of Indian women declined. The figure for white Scots was 23.1 per cent.

For other South Asian females the proportion not attending was 35 per cent.
