Drivers warned to take care as temperatures dip below zero in Edinburgh and the Lothians

Drivers are warned to take care and allow extra time this morning as residents across Edinburgh and the Lothians have woken up to sub-zero temperatures.

Gritters have been out in force during the night to ensure roads are passable for commuters this morning.

However traffic is still heavier than usual in some areas as the cold conditions are causing drivers to slow down.

Temperatures in the Capital will hover around zero degrees Celsius during rush hour this morning, climbing to one degree at around 10am.

Weather is slightly warmer in East Lothian at around one or two degrees Celsius in most areas this morning according to the Met Office.

West Lothian will see more frost and ice, with temperatures at the airport currently around minus one and due stay at zero until 10am.

Traffic Scotland warned drivers of a 'frosty start' this morning, and to give themselves extra time if driving this morning.
