The fireworks display is the busiest in Edinburgh and has been run every year since the mid-80s.

The theme for the sold out family show this year had been Sci-Fi.

An Edinburgh Leisure spokesperson said: “The fireworks display at Meadowbank this evening is cancelled due to adverse wind conditions. Edinburgh Leisure is sorry to cancel this and hopes everyone will understand that we have to put the health and safety of our customers first.

Customers have all booked online and Edinburgh Leisure will be refunding tickets to all the customers within 14 working days.”
