Edinburgh will see highs of about 23C throughout today as Scotland is set to have its hottest day of the year so far.

Bright sunshine is forecast for the day across the Capital and the Lothians with temperatures rising into the mid-20s for most of the day.

Around 4-5pm will be the hottest period where highs of 24C are expected.

Most parts of Scotland are set to experience this heatwave with temperatures reaching 28-29C in places including Elgin and Aviemore.

The heatwave comes as the Scottish Government releases restrictions in phase one of the lockdown exit plan.

As of today people can enjoy the warm sunny weather sitting in parks and visiting beaches and sunbathing.

A maximum of eight people from two households are are allowed to meetup with each other provided social distancing is still in place.

It is still not permitted to go and visit other people indoors.
