Weird and wacky designs take to college catwalk

OUTFITS inspired by everything from macabre fairytales to Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love will feature in the Edinburgh College of Art fashion show later this month.

Among the many weird and wacky student creations is a chain-mail suit made up of 25,000 safety pins which is sure to hold everything together on the catwalk.

Student Kelsey Johnston has spent 100 hours creating her suit for the fashion show, which showcases the work of 14 graduating performance costume students.

Edinburgh University’s Playfair Library will host the show for the first time to mark the college’s recent merger with the university.

The creations have been inspired by works including Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book, Angela Carter’s macabre fairytale The Bloody Chamber, Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love and a crumbling London estate.

Nine shows will be held from May 23-25, featuring a multimedia performance.

Kelsey, 22, from Sciennes, said: “I can’t wait to see my design at the show, and my classmates’ designs as well.”
