‘Welcome to all those coming to Hampden’

“GLASGOW on May 19, 2012 will be a very special date in the history of Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian and their supporters as the two clubs meet in the Scottish Cup final for the first time since 1896.

“On behalf of the city of Glasgow, I would like to welcome all those coming to Hampden, the home of football, for what is a historic and much-anticipated match.

“Many people are travelling to Glasgow for the final, not just from along the M8, but all over the globe.

“Our status as a football-mad city and country is of course legendary, and I am delighted to say that Glasgow will see another historic occasion when we will host some of the London 2012 Olympics football at Hampden in July.

“I am very aware just how big an event this is for everyone connected to Hearts and Hibs – I am sure the match will live up to its billing and that everyone will enjoy what promises to be a memorable day in Glasgow.”

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council
