While today is Good Friday and a bank holiday, the City of Edinburgh Council have confirmed that there are only four parking holidays in Edinburgh - and Good Friday is not one of them.

The four days a year which you can claim free parking in public parking bays are as follows:

• Christmas Day

• Boxing Day

• New Year’s Day

• Easter Monday

So, if you were hoping to park for free today then, sorry, no cigar.

But fret not, it’s not too long to wait until Easter Monday.

On designated parking holidays, motorists can leave their cars in public parking bays free of charge and on single yellow lines.

However, the council warn road users to bear in mind that parking holidays DO NOT carry over to the following working day - so be careful you don’t overstay your welcome.
