Wind turbine plans rejected

THE Queen’s representative in East Lothian has been snubbed in a bid to build an 18-metre wind turbine on his farm.

Sir Garth Morrison had planned to put up a 10kW domestic wind generator on his land at West Fenton Farm, near North Berwick.

But despite local authority officials recommending the proposal, the planning committee rejected the application.

Seven written objections to Sir Garth’s plans were made, including that the turbine would have an unacceptable visual impact. However, the council’s biodiversity officer was satisfied the proposed turbine would not have any adverse biodiversity impacts.

Local councillor David Berry, who opposed the plans, said: “It would be fairly visible to anyone walking in the Archerfield Estate, which is very common.”
