Woman in ball thanks for charity

A WOMAN who suffered a one-in-a-million illness is holding a charity ball to raise cash and awareness of blood donation.

Sheryn Ali, 34, from Slateford, spent weeks in hospital fighting the rare thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura condition. Now she is clear of the illness, she has decided to launch an event as a way of saying thanks for the care she received.

The Give and Let Live ball, which will also provide funds for Cancer Research UK, will go ahead on October 28 at the city’s Corn Exchange.

It will be hosted by Radio Forth’s Scott Wilson, feature a three-course dinner and live entertainment from two bands.

Tickets are available, and organisers are still seeking additional sponsorship for the black tie event.
