Woollen Mill refutes claim

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill has hit back at claims that it misled customers by producing sweaters labelled “Designed in Scotland” in Mongolia.

The firm said it is “factually correct” that the jumpers are designed in the Borders and that making them in the East Asian state kept prices low.

They also refuted reports that their contractor, Eermel, paid North Korean workers’ wages straight to the communist government, insisting workers are paid into personal accounts.

The company said: “We find it frustrating and disappointing that the BBC have chosen to sensationalise this story”
