Work to start on new Drumbrae care home

Work is to begin next month on a new care home after planners gave it the green light.

Contractors will start on the new care home at Drumbrae in October after agreement was reached at the city council’s planning committee.

The new 60-bed home is being built on the site of the former Drumbrae Primary School and will be the fifth new care home the council has commissioned. It will replace two older care homes – Clermiston House and The Tower.

Councillor Paul Edie, the city’s health leader, said: “I am really pleased that work can now begin on the next modern care home commissioned by this council. This will also bring an economic boost to the local community by bringing in new employment opportunities.”

Commenting on the council’s decision, Edinburgh West MP Mike Crockart said: “I am pleased that construction of the home can now begin. The new home will provide excellent care for older people in the local community.”
