Young chefs are hot stuff

FIVE budding cooks put their skills to the test in the final of the East Lothian Young Chef of the Year contest, won by Shelby Dalgliesh and Abby Douglas.

Teams of two S4 pupils had 90 minutes to prepare a two-course meal based on local ingredients, working under the scrutiny of a team of judges.

Councillor Peter MacKenzie, cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “I was amazed to see the level of skill our young chefs displayed. It is wonderful to know that they will have this skill for life. I was honoured to present the winners with their prizes.”
