Zoo meets a meerkat demand

A CLAN of meerkats was settling into a new home at Edinburgh Zoo, after bosses received multiple visitor requests to see them.

The family group of eight males and three females arrived in the Capital last week and are already proving a hit with the public. It is the first time in five years that the zoo has had meerkats on display.

Darren McGarry, head of animals at the visitor attraction, said: “Edinburgh Zoo used to be home to a group of meerkats, and we’ve had so many requests from our visitors to bring them back that we’re delighted to oblige.

“Known as a clan of meerkats, we’ve dubbed our new family the McMeerkats.”
