The former Hearts and Livingston boss had a minor operation today - just 24 hours before his side start season 2020-21 against East Fife in the Betfred Cup.

Assistant boss Paul Smith will lead the team into the Fife derby tomorrow and told The Fife Free Press the Stark’s Park boss had helped with pre-match preparations as usual.

"Between John and I we’ve set everything up from his hospital bed,” he told the FFP.

"We always work a couple of weeks in advance anyway so the preparation has been exactly the same as it would have been if John was here.

"John and I have done what we always do. We’ve picked the team together - though John has the final say on the team of course.

"We’ve gone through everything as we normally would as we get ready for East Fife.”

He added: "Everything is normal.”

McGlynn was manager at Tynecastle for the first half of the 2012-13 season. He later joined Livingston in September 2013 but left in December 2013.
