Former Hearts star Sam Nicholson was hugely influential in Bristol Rovers’ win at the weekend.

The 25-year-old scored one and set up another in the 2-1 victory over Blackpool.

Nicholson’s strike was one of the goals of the weekend.

The ball was knocked out to the edge of the box where it bounced up and was caught perfectly at quite the height by the attacker who fizzed it into the top corner with his left foot.

The strike was his sixth goal in 21 appearances this season.

It is not the first time he has netted an eye-catching goal. Last month he embarked on a fantastic solo run to score in a 4-2 win over AFC Wimbledon.

Rovers are 18th in League One following the victory.

Nicholson could have re-joined Hearts during the summer but he admitted playing in England was something he had “always wanted to do”, signing a deal until 2022.
