Boy, 9, injured after being struck by car near Edinburgh school

A major emergency response was under way this morning after a nine-year-old boy was knocked down by a car near an Edinburgh Primary School.

The boy was badly hurt when he was struck on Easter Drylaw Place, just off Ferry Road.

It is understood he was on his way to Ferryhill Primary on nearby Groathill Road North when he was struck.

It is understood the boy’s injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

One eyewitness said: “I saw the head teacher from Ferryhill Primary and his deputy running towards the scene at about 8:50am. There were police cars and paramedics everywhere, there must have been four or five.

It was on the road just behind the Drylaw shops.

“I saw a blue car further down the road stopped in the middle of the road and a police van blocking its path.

“I just hope whoever has been hurt is ok.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to Easter Drylaw Place around 8.50am on Wednesday 26 September following a report of a collision between a Volkswagen Polo and a pedestrian.

“A nine-year-old boy has been taken to the Sick Kids with a serious head injury, and enquiries are ongoing.”
