Caravan set alight in suspicious fire in Prestonpans

A caravan was set alight in Prestonpans with police now appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire

The incident happened around 6.45pm on Thursday August 16 within the car park beside John Muir Way.

A caravan was badly damaged after it set alight.

No one was injured in the incident however officers are urging anyone who may have information to come forward.

Sergeant Crawford Laing from Musselburgh Police Station said: “The caravan was unoccupied at this time and so fortunately, there were no casualties as a result of this fire.

“Nevertheless, we are treating this matter very seriously and would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on Thursday evening to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, if you can help us identify those responsible, then please also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Musselburgh Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 2861 of the 16th August. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
