Shop worker Diana Kokoreva misplaced the gold and diamond bands after momentarily taking them off during her lunch break in St Andrew Square.

Now the 28-year-old mother-of-one and husband Kirill are desperately trying to find the family heirlooms.

“It’s so sad,” Diana told the Evening News. “It’s not just about the money it’s the memories.”

Although valued at just over £2,000, the gold and diamond rings have far greater sentimental value - custom-made from Kirill’s grandparents’ rings.

“They’ve been together such a long time, 55 years,” said Diana. “We thought it was a great example for us.”

The couple were wed four years ago in dual ceremonies in Edinburgh and their native Riga, Latvia.

Diana was sat on a deck chair outside Costa Coffee in St Andrew Square on a break from her job at Burberry in nearby Multrees Walk on Monday afternoon.

“I was having a nice lunch and took the rings off to put some hand cream on and put them on my dress as I sat there,” she recalled.

“I realised it was time to get back to work but forgot about the rings so just stood up.”

Only when back at the store did Diana notice the rings were missing and sprinted back to the square to scour the ground.

“The people at Costa were brilliant,” she said. “They came out to help me look on the grass but we couldn’t find anything.”

Loss of the rings has hit the couple hard - not least given the link to family back home and the fact that today is their wedding anniversary.

“If someone has found them that would be the best gift for our fourth anniversary this year as we don’t feel like celebrating this year at all after what happened.”

“We were hoping to pass the rings down to our children and grandchildren,” added Diana, who lives in Falkirk with Kirill and their 18-month-old son Leo.

“We haven’t told Kirill’s grand-parents yet because we don’t want to worry them - hopefully we can find them first.”

The gold engagement ring sported a square diamond while the white and yellow gold wedding band contained ten smaller stones.

“Kirill buys a diamond to add to the wedding ring every anniversary,” said Diana.

Kirill has driven around pawn shops with photos of the rings as the search intensifies. A Facebook page has been set-up and a tweet shared more than a thousand times.

“We just want them back safe and sound and hopefully someone out there can help,” said shop manager Kirill, 32.
