BOMB disposal units are currently investigating a “suspicious package” at Niddrie House Square.
Police said specialist engineers are assessing the situation after concerns were raised earlier today.
But they declined to say how long they had been on site - and no details are yet known about the package in question.
A police spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh attended an address in Niddrie after concerns were raised about a suspicious package earlier today.
“Specialist engineers from the EOD [Explosive Ordnance Disposal] attended. The surrounding homes have been evacuated as a precaution while engineers assess the package.”
